■ Usage Instruction
Basic care is simple: After each use, dry the kettle completely with residual heat and wipe off any moisture.
Iron is a strong and durable material, but over time, it tends to oxidize and corrode. It's natural for it to rust and turn red, or even thin out after prolonged use. There is no such thing as a completely rust-free iron kettle. You can use it without worrying too much.
Proper care during the first period is very important for an iron kettle. Avoid any damage to the internal coating that prevents metal contamination. Also, ensure that "yuaka" forms quickly. "Yuaka" is a substance made up of various materials in the water, which makes the boiled water delicious.
"Yuaka" is formed over a period of 10 days to 2 weeks. Consider this period as the "shakedown period period." During this time, it is recommended to use the kettle every day. When using the kettle for the first time, please fill it with water up to about 60% of its capacity. After use, dry it with residual heat or on low heat. Never leave water inside the kettle.
Please do not touch the inside with your hands or scrub it with a brush, as this may damage the coating.
As the "shakedown" process progresses, brown spots or patterns may appear on the inside.
Please do not touch or scrub them, as they are not "red rust."
1st day: The dust inside of the kettle is washed away, and a gray coating becomes visible.
3rd-4th day: Brown spots and lines appear in some areas.
7th day: The brown areas spread and the color begins to fade.
10th day: A faint white coating appears throughout the inside of the kettle, becoming particularly noticeable around the spout and lid.
15th day: "Yuaka" appears as white powder around the brown or gray areas.
After the 15th day: The exterior shine increases, and the interior becomes covered with a white "yuaka" that takes on yellowish, brownish, or bluish hues, depending on the water quality.
・When using it for the first time, repeat boiling water and discard it three times to clean the inside.
・Do not scrub the inside of the kettle with a brush or wash it with detergent.
・When heating, slide the lid slightly to release the steam.
・It can be used on induction cooktops. For a 200V induction cooktop, use it on low to medium heat, as high heat may cause the bottom to deform. When using it for the first time, it is recommended to use it with low heat.
・When pouring the hot water into a pot, do not touch the handle or knob of the kettle. The kettle itself becomes very hot, so please use a cloth to hold it.
・Do not cool it down rapidly or place it in a cold place, as it may cause damage.
・After using the kettle, remove the lid, and either let it dry completely with residual heat or wipe it with a dry cloth.
・The spout, rim, and underside of the lid are the areas where rust tends to accumulate more easily. After each use, wipe them thoroughly with a dry cloth.
・When not using the kettle for a while, dry it thoroughly, then wrap it in moisture-absorbing materials such as newspaper or Japanese washi paper. Store the kettle in a dry place.
・For the care of the surface of the kettle, use a cloth soaked in tea. Wring the cloth well and polish the kettle while it is still warm. This will bring a beautiful gloss to the kettle.
・If the hot water becomes reddish or has a metallic taste, or if you notice “red rust” inside the kettle, boil water with used tea leaves packed in a tea bag until the water turns black. Be sure to use used tea leaves. The tannins from the tea combine with the iron to form tannic iron, creating a black coating that helps prevent further rusting inside the kettle.
・The coating at the joints between the handle and the kettle will naturally come off over time, exposing the iron surface. If slight rust appears, apply a small amount of vegetable oil or similar oil and wipe it off.
・Each item is handmade, so there may be slight variations in shape, size, and color.
